Acer Predator G9-792 upgrading screen from fullHD to 4k

Hello Dmitry thanks so much for your posts. I am trying to see if I can do the same for Nitro VN7 793G FHD to UHD. I am somewhat puzzled by the motherboard connector as all I can see are wires running from the corners but not sure if they go into the panel or are antenna cables etc. The panel I will use is the same as the one you used (correct for my model and is the same as on yours) but I am not clear on the connections. Do you have any other pictures? I saw the one you posted but because it taken so close I cannot understand where it is located. Appreciate if you have any other photos to guide me. Thanks!

Also if you have any photos of your cable that would be helpful. Thanks. (understand the 30pin, 40 pin difference but just cannot visualize it or find it-maybe I need to take the lcd panel off and turn it to see it.

Sorry Dmitri, one more comment here (question) is the uhd (or fhd as case may be) cables are not long enough to route through the hinges into the motherboard (see picture for uhd cable although for vn7-792g) By motherboard do you mean video board (not talking of Nvidia board but the graphics processing area) that is in the lcd cover? Hello Dmitry hope you see my messages...I managed to figure out the connection but the laptop will only power up on external power (disconnected the battery during the whole process and reconnected it-tried twice) and then screen is blank. The external monitor output works though. EDID? how do I fix this? I will check the display connection again (the motherboard connection was not correct-I fixed that as the connectors were not at all engaged). Suspect it is EDID or maybe the display connection is loose (but wondering why it won't start on battery and needs external power) Thanks

Just saw your message now. About an hour back I got it to work...duh...I had not attached the connector to the screen properly. Don't know how many times I connected reconnected both ends. Used the cable for the VN7 792G (bend is opposite but it fits and long enough-canceling my order for the 793G specific cable as very hard to find and backordered in Europe)...discovered a Youtube video where maybe the only instance where the video creator focuses on the connection part to the panel (he has an Aspire 5 or some other model) and says it is a common mistake. Found that video when I discovered the FHD also was not working (wondering if cable or panel or something else) Without BIOS screen too as it will not show up on external monitor (but then read battery disconnect resets BIOS-not sure) But it works now. Except battery again is not working even with reset. Might try a BIOS reset once all buttoned up. In the end, smoother than expected but took a long time because am not good with these fine attachments.

so now have the impossible to find VN7 793G UHD! (verified all works) in the USA (only very expensive ones in Europe/Australia-panel I got was original AUO and not a compatible-perfect colors etc) Will post more once I get it all working. Thanks-your success post on the Predator gave me the courage to open the laptop up (was sitting on the FHD model and the UHD screen for a few days)-there was always the chance the 792 would not work like 793 and then the cable was from 792. Thanks!!

one cool change (personal preference) would be to change the red backlight of keyboard to white (someone has posted this on ytube but not shown how--done on a vn7 791g I think...must be a filter or a led change guessing)

next step: consider trying hackintosh on it :) http://thcc.name reports predator G9-792 is running ok. if you'll succeed - you'll get a non-exisiting macbook pro 17' computer with a perfect 4k screen at funny price.

- replacement screens say this is a 30 pin connector only

The 4k display is 40 pin connector

do i need to buy a new video cable too ?

Can you please share where i can buy online- what is the laptop end of connector Thank you

i think the job you are doing is amazing complicated,in the china sellers from aliexpress says that if i install a new screen 4k in one laptop that dosnt comes with it i can broke the laptop by the pinout,in any case i dont believe it,about the 40 edp cable i think every link 40pin edp its compatible because its a standard and the pinout must be the samein every link and every laptop motherboard,i have the original auo109b that comes with my gt73vr 7rf 4k model and it looks amazing men,its incredible the rich colors in the mate version,in any case i where looking info about the sharp screen of the razer pro 4k,it seems like this laptop has a even one better screen

the experts says that is the best screen on the market,its available in alixpress and others,i asked and there is no stock but maybe in the future,the challenge is fit one screen like this version glossy on my laptop,make it compatible and fit it in the case

G9-792…and what follows after that (alphanumeric code and possibly if you have the Acer MPN/part number like an NX….appreciate if you could post that too) Thanks!
