water line hose at firewall

existing hose from fire wall to fixed fitting is leaking. It has a coupler or something on it to make it 2 hoses. Couldn't it be just one hose? Are there differant size fixed fittings and needs a reducer/coupler? Thes fittings appeat to be same size.
