Can't fully insert sim tray

Hello

I have a nexus 5 but the sim tray doesn't fully fit in.

The tray stops a bit before it is fully in.

Does anyone know what could cause this problem?

Was this a cut sim card like from normal sim to micro sim? Because if they are not cut properly then issues like this can occur.

This may be a dumb question but make sure you're not inserting the tray upside down.

I'm only using the tray, so no sim and it doesn't click in place.

I have tried upside down so that's not it

Are you certain the back is snapped on all the way?

Something else you might try: get an old SIM and insert the tray with it. The tray may need the added rigidity of a SIM card to slide in properly.
