Replace samsung galaxy tab 3 charging port.

I'm replacing the charging port on my Tab 3 and have gotten the one it came with off. Now, in trying to desolder the old solder off, I'm wondering if what little solder is left, can I go ahead and re-solder the new one on and does the front part of the port need to make contact with the circuits down below so when its plugged in, the Tab with then begin to charge? Thanks.
