Cause 1

Water Inlet Valve

The water inlet valve opens to allow water to enter the washing machine. If the water inlet valve is defective, the wash may fill slowly or not fill at all. The water inlet valve requires sufficient water pressure to function properly. First, check the water pressure to determine that it is adequate. If the water pressure is adequate, try cleaning the screens inside the water inlet valve hose connection ports. If the washer still fills slowly, replace the water inlet valve.

Cause 2

Low Water Pressure from House Supply

The home water pressure might be too low. The water inlet valve requires at least 20 psi to function properly. Check the water pressure to the valve to determine if it is sufficient.

the washing machine works fine while using it. it is when it is off that water drips from the top back of the machine

merle steinbeck, just like mayer said it sounds very suspiciously like a Water Inlet Valve problem. If, for example, you have a water inlet valve that has some corrosion or debris build up, it will not properly close and allow water to run into the washer at all times. This will happen even when the washer is turned off. You can find the part as placeslike this. To replace the valve, check this video.

this model inlet valve has a very high failure rate, very crappy design, valve not closing all the way. you can try pouring C.L.R. in it to try and disolve any hard water build up which might be causing it to stick open. some people have had luck doing this, i did not. new valve $40 to $50

Mine is less than 3 moths old, leaks only from the cold water source, pressure is fine, and it leaks even when disconnected.

My washer is almost brand new. 3 months old, tops. Water pressure is fine. It drips into the tub even when the washer is disconnected. Only from the cold water source.
