Is this LCD broken beyond repair?

Hi,

I bought the digitizer/front panel kit to fix a broken front screen, but in doing so I think I have fried my LCD. see the image attached.

In all your humble opinions, does it look beyond repair? I have reseated the connector plenty of times, it looks ok, I can just make out that the digitizer is working too, so I think it's the LCD now :( I must have bent it or something like that I think?

Anyway, for a first gen iPad mini - should I cut my losses after 60 EUR for the digitiser/screen and NOW another 70 EUR for the LCD??? 130 EUR - I could have got a 2nd hand one that didn't need all of this effort !!! :(

Yeah that LCD needs to be replaced. The iPad mini are a difficult device to fix anyways. if you ask me I think Apple put booby traps to make it harder to repair. Make sure you have a high quality digitizer, not the cheap stuff on eBay or Amazon, the cheap ones have the silver edges, the good ones have the gold or cooper edges. also make sure you are using kepton tape around the screen edge. If you use good screen and kepton tape it will prevent the ghost touching which is very common is the iPad mini repairs. One more thing when you remove the battery cable come in from the battery side, if you pry on the other side you will cause damage to the motherboard. Good luck!!!

I have the digitizer from FixIt.com - so it should be a good quality one I think! :) Thanks for your advice!

Unfortunately that LCD is broken and cannot be repaired. It looks like when you lifted it, the screen flexed a little too much and cracked. As far as the second part of your question, it's really up to you on how much you want to sink into repairing this device.

I think it's pretty obvious, there is a huge crack right in the middle.

Also when you replace the LCD, NEVER touch the surface of the LCD, it is impossible to clean the finger smudges.

actually there is no obvious crack in the surface. I think it is more of a flex after I had removed it :( anyway - thanks for the advice! Hopefully the replacement LCD will have some kind of plastic cover to peel off at the last minute when I close up the ipad?

Yes, the LCD will have a plastic cover to remove. When an LCD cracks it is usually internal, so you wouldn't be able to feel it.
