I bought the Playstation off cl knowing it had a problem. Keeps failing updates. Ive replaced the hdd with ssd, and installed software with several usb drives. i also tried the software its on 2.04 and every thing between current 3.00. Before I have it repaired was hoping there is a fix. I was thinking maybe pulling the cmos battery. the error code is su-30631-3. model cuh-1001a.

You have to upload the full system software not just the update

I used the full 800mb software file of several versions.

I have similar problem since my son tried to install the update a few weeks ago. we've tried installing the full version oo and although it appered top work, a couple of days later the PS4 just keeps rebooting and saying you need to install the system software.
Will try contacting Sony support, but if anyone has any answers as to why an otherwise perfectly working machine should just fail like this following update, I'd be grateful - so will my son!

In reading online this particular error is caused by the NOR Flash being corrupted. The onle fix listed i have read is to unsolder the flash and decode the dumpfiles.
