I see there are a lot of other accessories for this. Are they going to be needed to use this properly? Or are they just a "if you want them" sort of thing?

Due to the fact that this is a business oriented tablet accessories would be suggested, for the use of USB ports, Keyboard, mouse , HDMI ports , and full-size SD / MMC slots. This is pretty much all needed if you want to utilize all of the devices stated above. However if you're using this tablet for your leisure then those devices aren't a necessity.
