Display assembly for 2015 model

Hi, does anyone know if you can use an earlier display assembly on this model. Can't find a 2015 display assembly listed anywhere.

Thanks

The backlight Pin out is different on 2014 and 2015. They look the same and fit perfectly but the backlight boost circuit is different and pins are in different position than 2014 models. So, if you know how to redo the traces and manually jump the rails that will work.

Thanks for this and sorry for the bleated reply. Your info was correct and we made these displays work. Thanks for the heads up!

Is there a guide somewhere how to fix the pinout?

Hi, i'm wondering the same thing, connecting a 2014 lcd displays the image but no backlight. Is there a way you can modify the LVDS cable? Like cutting/rearranging the wires inside to give the backlight the power it so desperately needs?

da

@will how did you do it/is redoing the traces really necessary, or theoretically can you do the re-wiring within the cable?

da

I just looked into this wondering the same thing myself and unfortunately it doesn't not feasible to rewire it. I thought maybe the pinout was differently ordered, but there's different data going through the cables between the 2013/14 display and the 2015. On the 2013/14, the backlight pins allow the main board to measure the current the display is using. However, on the 2015 the display measures the current itself, then reports back to the main board via a digital I2C bus.

It fits perfectly, but the backlight doesn't work. Trust me, I have tried both model display assembly (2012 and 2013/2014).

The screen fits and the connectors do too, however the backlight doesn't work!

Yes he is correct, my mid-2015 MacBook Pro 15" i7, was defected, I calculated the Time and cost of replacing the LCD myself instead I decided to sell the parts and actually ended up making 50% of what I paid for the new MacBook Pro , profit - paid $2750 made $1,375. So I didn't take a loss that is just one I chose to do since Apple would not accept responsibility for the defected LCD which it 2012 MacBook Pro is also had the same issue. I love iFixit

No. It has different backlight rail . I used to sell the whole assembly with $425 on eBay and everyone trying to get lowball bargain and I stopped selling it.

Taking to Apple is just waste of money as everything is rip off.

what was the reason why they made this change? if the size and characteristics of the screen remains the same. So stupid.

It is profit generation and keeping the grip on supply. Every piece of Apple products includes a tiny bit of Steve Job's arrogant mentality.

da

David! Your the man, I could not agree with you more all of the wasted time gas and money going back-and-forth just to be shut down by the "geniuses" but they know what's best hahaha

-I love iFixit

OEM Replacement @eBay ==

-I have a Mid 2015 MacBook Pro 15.4" and I droped my MacBook 3 months ago and and I never buy apple care (rip off) so Apple told me they could fix the LCD for over $1,300, I laughed, then searched everywhere to buy a LCD to Do a fix it myself, finally I found a few sellers on eBay which sell the LCD for around $480 and thank to iFix it, I was able to accomplish a less than $575 fix! Hope this helps. (Link to eBay below)

This is a really crappy quality assembly. I ordered one from the above link. They sent it to me in about a week and a half. It installs very easily, however the clamshell did not close flush, it does not contain the right magnet to induce sleep mode when it's closed, the poor closure causes the clamshell to pop open sometimes, and the screen assembly started to come unglued from the metal case. Overall it's cheap feeling. I returned it and had to settle for going to a Mac store for repair to get the right OEM part

We fit displays all the time, a small fraction have been defective.

da

I just wanted to post a update on what I ended up doing instead of taking a loss because of Apple I discombobulated this product and used eBay to sell 12 components and ended up making a very well amount of profit so I did not take a loss due to the LCD defect that was a blessing because I made over 1000 profit.

Time consuming but very easy way to make a good amount of money [image|844705]

I’ve got almost the same question but slightly different. I need to fit 2015 panel on 2014 (2013 model year) Macbook, as 2014 isnt’ eligible for trade-in swap which makes the cost sky-high, just insane! Pretty much the price of the macbook itself.

Are there any ways to make it work?
