Fans at full speed and slow to install/run

Hi everyone.

I've recently acquired a 15" 2010 MBP and about 10 seconds after the power button is pressed, the fan go at full speed. The OS loads and is sluggish so i installed Macs Fan Control and all temps were 40 degrees or below so that's not an issue.

I reset the SMC and PRAM to no avail, so thought perhaps the HD was failing so i tried a clean install on an SSD and same thing.

Has anyone had any experience of the SATA cable being the culprit here? I've had this on others when it was sluggish but i don't recall this affecting the fans. I'm wondering whether this cable may not be seeing the SMART details on the drive and causing this.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Thank you.

Paul

I replace so many of the HD?IR cables on these I keep 8 of them in stock for both the 13" & 15". I generally replace with the cables from the 2012 models as they are more substantial. Buy only new cables, this is not the time to inherit someone else problem with a used part. The new ones will have paper on the sticky parts. You do not need a new bracket. I then put pads on either side of the cable to help prevent damage on the optical drive edge.

Thank you for the reply.

I've run ASD over it and that failed. Would you by any chance know more about what this may be?

ERROR - SMC IO failed
