Sizing Photo Editing Wallpaper

How best to size or choose the size of a downloaded or transferred picture when choosing wallpaper. I ask this for the fact that the options are rather limited on the tablet itself. I can manipulate pictures on my computer to a particular necessary size and then transfer but I need to know what size to make the pictures.
