Why is switching the phone to silent required to replace the battery?

The video/steps make it clear that the phone should be switched to silent before replacing the battery. I'm just curious as to why. What does that switch even have to do with replacing the battery?

Sorry for the silly question, I assume iFixit has a reason for recommending this, I just want to know...why?

Thanks!

I actually have never heard of that. I have replaced so many batteries before and never done that and i have never had any problems. Could you please share the link of that, i would like to see that.

It's right here in the video for iPhone 4 (that's what I was referring to when I made this post). I even queued it up to the moment where MJ says it: https://youtu.be/KYvjuWg06l4?t=57s

I quote: "Before we get started we're gonna make sure that the silent switch is activated and the phone is powered off. That's the only real trick to the repair."

It struck me as a strange requirement for battery replacement, but since she made a point of saying it I figured there must be a reason!
