Replaced Screen But Blank Display

Hi, I tried replacing two Z3c screens and once connected no visual display is showing on new screens but touch and sound working. I tried reconnecting the original screens back and still same problem on both devices..

I am not a novice and I have fixed Sony devices before and i am just baffled as to what it could be. I have used company before for previous screens but not ruling out faulty screens :/

- Have you guys experienced anything similar?

- And any solution if so..

thanks

I replaced led glass on my LGK20, now I don't have volume for incoming calls, utube vids, etc. The phone works ( I can hear the voice of my caller) but there's no ringtone. I took it apart again and made sure all plugs are tight. What now??

Hello I just want to ask on z3 touch screen sensor and digitizer is on mother board or on screen

Between lcd connector and the louder speaker there is a metal bracket. Try putting electrical tape on top of that metal bracket than put louder speaker. That worked for me ! Make sure connectors are not damaged.

This issue is caused by a fault motherboard. After much research the main issue on my Z3 d6653 is that the battery provides less than adequate power to the graphics processor. In order to display the pixels. There is 2 solutions. Replace the motherboard or battery by using a multilayer and testing the fuse to the power to the graphics card. 2. Install a custom rom and downgrade the graphics software so that it doesn't require as much intensive graphics processor.

It the same issue you encounter on a pc that has a weak power unit and a beefy graphics card.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I had the same problem. When you google it, you find lots of software solutions, resetting and firmware reloading and so on, which did not work for me.

I also replaced the screen which I have done many times before, but this time eventually I blew the fuse for the LCD backlight.

So please try to take a very bright light from your desktop lamp or LED-torch and shine light _through the back_ of the LCD. Of course you have to be careful to keep all that mainboard, LCD and torch in one hand and have the other one to operate the buttons. You should avoid to create just another short on the power supply and blow even more things... However, if you see your display working with your home made backlight, then this reply is for you.

I found the solution at http://progulki.com.ua/sony-xperia-z3-co...

Block Image

and also here: http://www.mobilerdx.com/2015/03/sony-xp...

There it sais it is for Xperia Z3 but in fact it is Z3C and the picture rotated :-)

There are pictures where on the mainboard the fuse resistor for the backlight is located. You can throw this russian page into google translate and get an idea whats happening. You will have to open one of the metal shields. I did this with a skalpel and bend them slightly. Then, you have to cut away a little bit of the frame which is soldered onto the mainboard. Be very careful here! You can cut it at two points, but then it is still soldered to the mainboard underneath! Unfortunately, I ripped it off and it took the first layer of the mainboard away with it. I could actually see PCB traces of layer 2 bare naked. You could avoid this by unsoldering it, once it is cut at the left and right... However, even with that damage, my phone is working fine again.... Allright, locate the fuse. With mine, you could really see that it had a crack through its case. So I was quite sure that that device really was broken and could potentially make an error.

You could make a short over it, or you could unsolder it and then short the two pins. However, you would lose the safety feature of a fuse there. So get yourself a SMT Resistor, 0402 case, 0 Ohm, 63mA ! This will blow, if you should accidentally pull too much current next time ;-) Rather this one, instead of the LCD backlight driver IC... You can get this Resistor in any electronic devices shop. I used a CRG0402ZR (you can google it). Once soldered that one in, my backlight and whole LCD was working again. I was also able to get the metal shield back on and my Xperia is as good as new again.

Also: If you put it all together and you are stuck with a 50% battery charge which would not load nor discharge: then you did not fix the battery connector properly. The phone works but it is missing the connection to measure the capacitance. Refit it and you will be back in the game. I hope this helps to fix the best phone in the world :-) Cheers.

Hi do you think that Royalohm 0 Ohm SMD 0402 0.0625 W 5 % will work? I don't see the milliampere anywere. Also what did you use for the soldering process?

da

Sorry, that was a typo! Of course it is 63m WATT not Ampere. So your 0.0625W resistor is exactly what I am talking about. For soldering, any thin solder tip will do. Results will be better if you use a solder flux pen. I used a microscope but that is subject to your personal capabilities. Good luck, keep me posted.

da

"So please try to take a very bright light from your desktop lamp or LED-torch and shine light _through the back_ of the LCD. Of course you have to be careful to keep all that mainboard, LCD and torch in one hand and have the other one to operate the buttons"

LOL are you kidding me?

da

:-)) no, I mean it!

When I put light from the front, the display was not readable. When I put it from the back, it was very well readable as well as usable. I could really use the phone. That gave me the confidence that the phone was not broken but that it was the bad backlight.

Hope this helps!

I've encountered that before, and in the other cases, sent it to a motherboard expert. He said that static from my fingers may have damaged the board. Or possibly a damaged battery causing a short. Sucks though, doing this for a customer who is already angry about the delay.

da

Most likely motherboard on these Z3c are fragile as both units i tried had encountered same fault straight after one another.

Although I do remember using latex glove :/

da

Where did you sell your broken z3c?

I'm in the same boat and I'm ready to cut my losses.

da

DooberKnob how much are you selling yours for? What country are you in?

da

I'm in USA, I don't know how much a damaged z3c goes for. Probably ~$200.

I found that the chips on the right connector at the bottom of the LCD orange connector protruded more than the original screen. The metal cage that holds the screen connectors down, shorts out the chips. If you removed the metal cage, the screen will display. I used some tape on the metal cage to stop the short. I've fixed a lot of Z series displays, it seems they're very hit and miss or, they're incredibly fragile.

Did you try and test the LCD before installing? I think bending the flex cables like so can do damage, I don't bother doing it anymore and make sure the LCD is in the intended position (without frame adhesive) and then test it when it's installed into the frame.

Did you say you tried the old LCD and it's showing the same signs as the new LCD?

I had no other way to test LCD other than to thread it through and try it without sticking it down and no joy.

I bought LCD's from different 2 company and return them with full refunded obviously the company would have tested them at their end to give refund.

Yes the old original screens would not work - so guess fragile motherboard.

da

i used it for 2 yrs and suddenly i saw half of screen is dark seems like pressed. half part still works. do u think changing lcd screen works? please suggest.

In the meantime I figured it out for me! When you put in the new battery you have to sort of plug it in at the lower left of the phone (having the screen facing down). Well the same works for the screen. You will see the "plug" on the lower right when the battery is out. For me the problem was that I accidentially unplugged the connection. Plug it back in and it should work again.

Sure you got a new phone in the meantime but mayber it'll help someone in the future browsing through this forum

Could you explain what the person did ?

da

That would be great indeed.

da

Yeah. Please, what's the info in the video.... thanks!

da

any chance you could explain the video as the footage is not there any more, sony have probably removed the footage so you have to take your devices to them and they can rip everybody off !

da

The video has not been removed, it is simply that this forum truncated the URL. The complete URL is "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCTQgZ20..., although the trick didn't worked for me since I have a blacked screen Xperia M4 that didn't have that button.

I had the same problem. I returned the screen and got a new one and now everything works. It turns out it was a faulty/defective screen. I would suggest returning the screen and getting a new one. If that doesn't solve your problem, then you probably blew a fuse on the motherboard. You can fix this by micro-soldering a jumper on the fuse. I went to multiple repair shops and none of them were willing to do this for me. I was in dismay because I really wanted to fix my phone. So I decided to return the screen and get a new one as a last resort. Thinking that maybe it was a faulty screen. It turned out that, that was the problem.

da

HIello Max M and thanks for your reply. I actually did not buy a new screen. Because my screen was not damaged and was only comming off. I tried to open the screen and put it back using adhesives. Do you think I might have damaged the screen , cable or etc? Is it worthy to order a new screen and try?

da

Why was your screen coming off? Was it previously replaced? When you say open the screen what do you mean? Also what adhesives. Also where did you try and lift it up? top, bottom, left, right?

My issue is similar. I'm pretty sure the problem is related to the screen not fitting properly into the frame. The screen is bent very slightly (light is leaking along the sides) and the LED seems to be separating from the glass. Or it could be a pressure sensor issue? Mine worked before I tried gluing it down. It also worked intermittently before I put it into a snap case. At one point it told me to close the cover for the charging port which was already shut. That's what made me think pressure sensor. I'm going to have to try re-adhering both the front and the back and clamping them. Wondering if I should buy a new frame, but I'm kind of sick of dealing with it.

This is what I found:

I disconnect the cable for the digitizer (touch screen), and the LCD *will* work.

Connect mouse with OST cable, and you can control your Xperia again.

So issue looks like the digitizer...

I think the OS cant cope with the firmware of the digitizer, and the digitizer firmware must be upgraded.

I had this one time before, and I solved it with a firmware update (PC companion - Software repair, don't need a working LCD to do this, or disconnect the digitizer, connect an USB mouse with the OST cable, and upgrade firmware from android).

Anyways, in this last case, firmware did not work for me.

Any ideas are welcome.

By the way, if you can find the youtube instructions... Please post!
