The power button seems to be askew. Fix or replace?

The power button on my I phone 3GS tilts to the left. I've read that this sometimes happens to other users, but everything still works. My button will not work to lock or power the phone down. Additionally, it will sometimes get stuck in a shut down or lock cycle on its own.

Is it possible to somehow un-stick the button, or do I need to relace it? I'm not one to open up my phone unless absolutely necessary! I already know that my phone is out of warranty, so I doubt that the Apple store will do anything for me.

if you want this problem fixed - you only have to options:

1, give someone a good amount of cash to do it

2, do it on your own

since i'm more the number 2 guy (that takes the money from number 1 -lol), i would do it on my own.

use the headphone jack assembly guide to get to the power button (step 17).

check if there's anything bent/broken

i can only advise you to do a visual check - it makes no sense to tell you all possible problems with the button. open it, check it and if you don't see any problem - tell us what you see or better, upload a photo of that area

I currently have this problem and would like to know what exactly is causing the button to stop clicking.. Is it that the aluminum contacts have been flattened?

I haven't dropped my phone but I am using the Speck Candyshell case and I suspect that due to its design it has put too much pressure on the button over time.

Also, what is the difference between the "white" and the "black" version of this phone? Is it just the color of the headphone socket?
