I was getting the beach ball quite often and then it got progressively worse until now I can barley login before it freezes and needs to get force restarted. It has a relatively new HD in it and the Disk Repair came up clean. I'm thinking bad drive or Ram, any thoughts on how to test without being able to boot for long.

Replace HDD cable with a new one, use part number 821-0814 to search for replacement on the internet. Buy new, not used $@$*.
