Why does my camera freeze when selecting "Clean Manually"?

My camera has been recently getting error 30. At first it was once in a while, but now it is every single time I try to take a picture. Reading some of the answers here I saw that using the clean manually option in the menu usually fixes it. I was able to do it and the mirror would lockup before but now whenever I press it the entire camera freezes, nothing happens, and I have to restart it. In addition, sometimes when trying to take a picture I would press the button and nothing happens, no shutter movement or error 30, still no pictures though .I haven't been able to use my camera for weeks and it would be great if someone could help.
