How the gyroscope works

I read the description word for word. I do not understand how this little non mechanical device knows how the iPhone is oriented. It refers to the coriolis effect. I do not know what that is. Do electrons move along channels in a different manner with respect to gravity? I am baffled. Also how on earth can something be made in such detail that only an electron microscope can reveal it's fine detail? This seems like it would cost a million dollars to make such a thing.

Yes, it does in fact take millions (probably billions) of dollars to design, analyze, test, and produce MEMS devices. This huge investment gets paid back when companies find ways to mass produce millions of copies of their designs at an unbelievably cheap price. This way, they can offer the chip for a few bucks and still make back the $$$ they invested. The Coriolis effect is definitely not related to the motion of electrons. It is developed from the laws of classical mechanics. This article attempts to explain the Coriolis effect, but it is a difficult concept to put into words. Basically, if any object is in linear motion and is rotated about one of its three axes, a force is produced orthogonal to the vectors of the linear and rotational motion. This can be explained by the cross product between the external rotation vector and the linear velocity vector. How this guy came up with what he did and used calculus to explain it all is beyond me. Wanna really blow your mind? Try to figure out gyroscopic precession.

I'm pretty sure you made up half of those words, but it certainly deserves an upvote!
