The battery is rated at 3.82 volts. If I placed a 3.7v battery replacement in the phone do you think it would still work or you would recommend staying with a 3.82v? What kind of connector is connecting the iphone 6 battery to the board of the phone?

You need to use the correct battery. The connections and the size of the phone limit you.
But before you even try repairing your phone I would recommend you bring it into Apple as it is still covered under warranty.
