Your top and bottom cases may be out of alignment. When you say "that it will not shut all the way, I assume you mean that it will not latch. There are two latches in the top and the receptacles are in the bottom with the magnets. Carefully close the lid and see if they line up and see if the top latches are being pulled down. Gently push the top case in the direction it needs to go after observations. You can also inspect the hooks to see if they are broken or bent.

My Macbook is doing the same, I was told the spring that pushes the latch out is old, and weak. I am trying to figure out how to replace this myself, if you have any hints. The computer just springs back open about an inch for right now.

yeah, my latches are being pulled down...they're just not latching on to anything.

This isn't always the result of misalignment. That button stops coming back out all the way over time, even if there's no dust or crud in there. I've blown the thing out at 150 PSI and cleaned it as best as I could, it just gets old.

Do this and you'll fix it every time. This has had a 100% success rate over the past five years, with no customers ever coming back.

Just tried the 150 psi air. Perfect!! You're still batting 1000.

Tried to watch the video and I get a message that it is unavailable.

It could be a stiff hinge like on mine. I used some WD40 and exercised the hinge. Closes perfectly now but this 'fix' is done at your own risk. I have no idea if there will be subsequent damage from the oil. Good so far after a week.

Its just safer to replace the hinge. If the hinge is rubbing hard little metal flakes can be floating around which could short out your logic board!
