I want to know how to format the hard drive with a USB stick and reinstall the factory wWindows XP. I have an .ISO for xp and a USB stick, and a hp netbook mini that starts and freezes with a homeland security page.

if it is a toshiba computer you can press the "0" key upon startup if it does not work try f2 or f8 or f12 upon start up. if it is a dell laptop you can maybe press the f8 or f12 button upon start up. If it is a mac press command D upon start up. just follow the instructions to reset. it should work for all software

Thanks , but I tried all the f8 Windows options and none worked. That's why i'm here, asking you. I know I need to format the hard drive. Question now is can I create a bootable USB that takes you straight to DOS, not even command prompt option from f8 menu works.

Steven Rice, what you would need is a program like "HPUSBFW.exe" or "Rufus" those will allow you to create a DOS bootable USB drive. I am sure you do know how to install your .ISO back to your HP Mini. BTW "homeland security page." sounds like Trojan Urausy ransomware infection. Before anything else, you might just try this attempt to get rid of it. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks for trying to help. I gave up on xp today. I recently found out it's literally dead. So I switched to Linux so I still have a computer I can use.
