Replaced Blu Ray Drive not working

So I bought a used PS3 slim that had a blu ray drive that didn't play games, but it would play dvds. I bought it because it seemed like an easy fix and it was cheap even though it was missing all of the screws. So I bought a blu ray drive from someone on Craigslists and I replaced it in the PS3 while making sure that I used the PCB board from the old blu ray. When I turned it on, it didn't play any disc and it didn't ever try to read the games. So I decided to use the old drive but use the lens from the newer blu ray drive. At first it read the game, but when I tried to play the game it froze, gave me a blinking green light and now it no longer reads ps3 games, but it will read dvds again. My question is did I need to do something with the newer blu ray drive so that it works, or is there something I can try with the ps3 slim now.

It is probably a firmware issue. The PCB board from the old drive does not contain the proper firmware for the new carriage assembly, or even the new lense to perform correctly. Whenever I replace one of these I select the entire carriage assembly for the identical drive that the faulty unit already has. You can also search using the descriptor on the bottom of the unit. For example, many of the PS3s carry the designation "CECH 2501A" or "CECH 2501B." Selecting components specific to the correct model number and build version will prevent many issues and greatly ease your repair.

Good luck!

Update

The best recommendation I can give would be to purchase the entire carriage assembly with the PCB and the lense. I found the exact correct one for my most recent PS3 repair on eBay.

So do you think if I got the correct blu ray lens it would work, or do I just need the correct blu ray player?
