Replace a 5 1/4" HDD with a 3 1/2" HDD?
Apple iMac "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 24-Inch (Al) Specs
Identifiers: Mid-2007 - 24" - MA878LL - iMac7,1 - A1225 - 2134
The HDD on my iMac died. Your replacement guide states to replace with a 3 1/2" HDD but the drive I removed is a 5 1/4". What gives. Does this mean different hardware to mount this 3-1/2"? Does it Have to be a WD. I just happen to have a 3-1/2" Seagate Momentus 5400.6 500gb drive sitting here. Can I use this drive in my iMac. I noticed yesterday it does not appear to support S.M.A.R.T. I hooked it up to my MBP to check it out and erase it. To prep for install to the iMac.
Main question is 5-1/4" to 3-1/2" replacement.
Thank You

Please give us the last three figures of your serial number (located on the bottom of the stand). Thanks

There are no numbers, just the sticker that states "Designed by Apple" "this item must accept interference from..." etc....
Any other place to look?

"X8A" found them on the box.

Thank you Joshua, will that work into the iMac with the snap-in bracket?
Oh, and Mayer, I bet you've never seen a Commodore 64 with external 5-1/4 floppy drive. There's no need for assumptions and statements like that! Maybe stating a large hard drive replaced by a small hard drive would have been more appropriate.
Just sayin', but thanks for the precision.

Of course I've seen (and used) a Commodore 64 . I bought my first Apple in 1979.
