so the key on my multi purpose keyboard on a g4 mac powerbook, everytime i press the k button i get 2 instead of k...
so i think it is the fn key but i can press it but it doesn't respond

Did you spill something into it?
You could try cleaning the mechanism by popping off the key cap and you can try taking it apart to clean the logic board contacts. In either case you'll need to use distilled water with a cotton swab (Q-Tip) to wash the areas down. Then go over the areas again this time with a high grade of Isopropyl alcohol (85% or better)
