Domanda Chiusa

Hard Drive stays on when Lid is closed

I just hired 'Geek Squad' to put a dual hard drive in (and take the CD player out) which they did but now when I close my lid the laptop stays on and when I open the lid the laptop falls asleep and will not wake up. I have to restart my computer every time in order to use it.

I was not having this problem before I put the second hard drive in and Geek Squad refuses to look at it.

I tried resetting my NVRAM / PRAM as well as my SMC. I tried this:

"if the computer still doesn't sleep when you close the lid:

you could try booting to the install disk. while booted to the install disk, try closing the lid. if you close the lid, and the computer dose not sleep, you know it's a hardware issue. If the computer dose sleep, then you know it's an OS issue. "

And the computer stayed on during this process so I believe it is a hardware issue. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try next?

I took it into a different Computer Technician. The problem was that the caddy that I used in the Optic Drive did not support sleeping. We switch the two hard drives around and it works perfect now!

Carefully lift off the keyboard following this IFIXIT guide Replacing MacBook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo Models A1226 and A1260 Keyboard. In this case you want to inspect the ribbon cable that connects the keyboard to the logic board as well as the ribbon cable that lays on top of the HD see if the connectors are properly seated as well as see if there is any damage.

This is one of the easiest systems to replace either the HD or optical drive so I'm at a loss how they damaged anything here in the process (other than the ribbon cables).

I'll have to open it up and take a look when I get the chance (Hopefully tomorrow!)

We figure out the problem. I talk to a different technician and he suggested switching the hard drives around. We did it and it works. Apparently the caddy doesn't support sleep mode. Which is weird.
