LCD flashing light grey to dark grey repeatedly. Now will not work.

My son brought me my iPod, flashing light gray to dark gray, could not power off. Eventually stopped flashing, assumed battery dead. Suspected liquid damage. Opened up and allowed to dry, however did not detect liquid. Tried iPod reset, hold switch followed by pressing menu and select buttons, does not work. Attached sync cable and screen comes on immediately to a light gray nothing else.

It sounds like you have done this but:

- plug the iPod into the computer using a USB cable, allow a couple of minutes for the iPod to boot and iTunes to recognise it. if it comes up and syncs then there is an issue with the screen

- plug iPod in to a wall charger and allow time for it to boot, make sure hold switch is off insert headphones and press play(obviously this will only work if the iPod has music on it) if it plays then it check it snycs if it does you need a screen.

If neither of the above work then the iPod has a logic board fault or multiple faults such as LCD & logic or LCD & HD. without spare parts and a bit of trial and error you'll have trouble working out exactly what.
