Please Help DVD Issue. Yellow symbol in finder will not go away.

I can no longer play/burn any kind of cd or dvd in my imac. I cant even restore my computer now. I insert the cd/dvd it spins and pushes it back out after a few seconds. I also have an issue when i open Finder under Places i have 2 untitled yellow disk there. This normally indicates a blank disk ready to be burned but there is no disk inside at all. Im not sure if this is a cd drive issue or a software issue. I need this Fixed. Please help me

WOW thanks Machead that Fixed the unburned disk problem in on the finder screen. I am still having the problem with the disk drive. I insert DVD (tried many different ones which work on my macbook) it spins them a few times then just spits them back out. What could cause this?

i have external DVD drive all ready. I am just wondering why i cant use the OS X install Disc so when it comes to upgrading my imac how will i be able to do it. I mean i would like my internal DVD drive to work but as long as i can up date and do everything i need on my external then it wont be much of a problem. THanks everyone

I may have a way for you to delete it. Sounds like software not hardware problem. I believe a preference .plist has become corrupted; The alias is stored inside com.apple.sidebar.plist located at /Users/username/Library/Preferences/ so go there and delete the following:

com.apple.finder.plist

com.apple.sidebarlists.plist

Restart or log out of your session ( > LogOut Username) then log back in then check a finder window..

You may have to reset your preferences in Finder after trashing the .plists.

If macheads suggestion does not work, please let us know we can try a kill all finder command using terminal. That basically kills all finder windows/processes.

A damaged Drive, not an uncommon occurrence. Not to worry- this is the place where YOU can find out how to DIY replace the bad drive! Start by properly and completely IDing your Mac, pick the guide, order the proper tools & parts (every job goes easier when you use the correct tools) and fix that sucker.
