Using a hard disk cable meant for a different model

Hi all,

Ive recently had my hard disk cable die on me and im running my macbook of a usb flash disk now. Im using a mid-2010 13" Macbook Pro that uses an Apple Part #: 922-9062 hard disk cable.

The problem I have now is that by mistake, I've ordered Apple Part #: 922-9771 instead that is meant for the 2011 model. My question is, would the part still be compatible or does the problem lie possibly with a different connector that connects it to the logic board?

Mayer,

922-9062's are not interchangeable with 922-9771. The 922-9771 is too short to connect the Logic board to the HDD in a 2009 or 2010 13 inch MBP. I've seen a 2011 13 inch MBP with a 922-9062. It may work, but who knows for how long. Since the cable is too long it wouldn't sit right causing folds.

If you're desperate, you can make the short one reach if you don't use the two 3mm screws that hold the middle of the cable down. I wouldn't advise it. I did it but it failed eventually after a couple of years. 922-9771 (821-1226-A) is too short. Use 922-9062 (821-0814-A) because it is longer.
