Domanda Chiusa

How do I install tiger?

I have an iMac g3 graphite 600 MHz with a cd-rw and i recently installed OSX 10.2 on it, I got OSX tiger and tried to install it, and it ejected it, so I bought a dvd-rw (usb) and tried again, it recognized the install disk, i hit the restart button in the installer to continue, but i just booted back into 10.2, any ideas?

You need to use the firewire port to do this installation or to boot from an external DVD or CD.

I am trying to boot from this dvd

FIREWIRE not USB. Your machine will not boot from an external USB.

is there a way I could rewrite tiger into a cd and boot off of it (in the main drive)?

da

I would put osx tiger in the dvd-rw and put blank cds in the cd slot

Run "get info" on it to see if it is small enough to fit on a CD. Do you have another Mac so you can use Target Mode?

Minimum install requirements for Tiger:

  • At least 256 MB of RAM
  • At least 3 GB of free disk space; 4 GB if you install the XCode 2 Developer Tools

It would help to know any dialog or error messages that went along with the install fail.

As per mayer, you'll need to put the iMac in target disk mode, connect VIA FIREWIRE from one of your other machines, boot and select your iMac then install.

da

Target Mode connection will need to be via FireWire and to a second Mac. This Mac is acting as the master to your iMac (slave) so the iMac's HD is seen as an external disk to your master system. - Another way here is getting an external FW HD (don't need anything that large) to first format and install your new Tiger OS on to it then copy the installation files from the DVD to the HD then use the Startup control to select the external disk as the boot volume to then boot and install the new OS from. A side benefit of doing this is you then have a backup drive to repair your system as well as hold anything you don't want to loose (just in case).
