I need to solder the power/volume button ribbon cable on to the logic board of an iPod touch 4. I'm using a Weller soldering station (WLC100) that has a temperature dial but no visual temperature display. How do I know what to set the dial at? Should I measure the temperature at the tip somehow?

amindell, lead-free solder melts around 482°F, depending on their composition. The temperature of the soldering iron must be above the melting point of the solder you are using. When the soldering iron can melt the solder, it has reached that melting point temperature, and you can use it. I honestly never had any reasons to know the exact temperature of the soldering tip.
