Started with random geographic patterns on the screen, intermittent at first but now constant and completely obscuring. Is there a video chip I can replace or must I buy the complete logic board?

Apple will do a "flat rate" repair on this machine for $280 plus shipping. They replace the logic board.
The video chip (a Radeon) is integrated into the board and cannot be removed without a sophisticated soldering station.
