You need to open the laptop and check if the DC-In jack is electrically OK by testing it for continuity by using an Ohmmeter. (function of a DMM -Digital MultiMeter)
Here is a link to the ifixit [guide|25972] guide. It is handy as it shows how to dis-assemble the laptop to a point, (by Step.23) where you can disconnect the DC-In jack (it is a separate component), from the motherboard so that it can be tested with the Ohmmeter.
