Hmm, I guess from it's age all you will be able to do is to back it up. Then if you were able to get a full back up on to your computer.
Press and hold power and home buttons while it is still plugged into the Computer.
Once it shuts down and you see the Apple Symbol, release the power button and continue holding the home button.
Your Computer should have a message pop up saying it found a device in recovery mode.
Restore your iPod, and leave it plugged into your computer, then as it asks you to set up the iPod from the welcome screen, press restore from back up.
This should fix your issue.
