Is the LED indicator on your Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K's battery remaining red, and the drone isn't powering on? Use this troubleshooting guide to help diagnose why.
Check the Charger and Cables
If the charger isn't lighting up, or the battery isn't charging when connected
- Check that the charger is properly plugged in and turned on.
- Try to use another battery (if possible) to see if the problem is really with the charger. If it is then there is a need to replace charger.
Charger works but the connection is bad or slow charging
- Examine the cable for any visible wear, Even minor damage can impact charging. If the cable is damaged then replace it with new one.
After reviewing the steps listed above, there are still signs of slow charging try cleaning the charger contacts with a soft cloth or cotton because dust, dirt or oxidation can prevent proper connection.
Inspect the Battery
Check the battery's age and condition if it fails to charge or charges slowly.
- If your battery is old and is used over time, it may have reached the end of its lifespan. LiPo batteries which are used in drone can degrade after many charge cycle and may fail to hold a charge.
- look for any swelling, leaks, or cracks- these are the signs of a damaged battery. It is recommended to replace the battery if these signs are noticeable.
Battery Voltage
Check battery voltage if the battery looks perfectly fine but still fails charge, It could happen if the battery is too discharged (below a certain voltage threshold). Here is how to fix it
- With the use of multimeter measure the battery's voltage. A fully charged Typhoon Q500 4K battery should be around 14.8V.
- If the voltage is significantly lower than the required voltage, the battery may need to be professionally charged
Be sure to look out for Environmental Factors
Charger or battery feels too hot, or the battery refuses to charge. Because charging the battery in extreme temperature can be dangerous and may prevent it from charging effectively.
- Ideal charging temperature for the Typhoon Q500 4K battery is between 32°F and 113°F.
- If the temperature is too hot or cold, move the battery to a temperate area and allow it to reach a safe temperature before charging it again.
- Overheating is a very common problem in case of charger or battery. In that situation unplug it immediately and let it cool down to prevent permanent damage.
Firmware and Software Check
In rare cases, the issue could be with an outdated firmware on the battery or the drone. Make sure that your drone's firmware and software is up-to-date. Doing this might fix the slow charging issue.
In order to check the firmware and software of the drone review the following steps:
- Power on the Typhoon Q500 4K
- Connect the drone with a pc or laptop using a USB cable. The drone should show up as an external drive (like a removable disk)
- Download and connect to Yuneec software (e.g. Yuneec's Data Pilot) to check it the drone is up-to-date.
