Short battery life
Laptop's battery or charge is extremely short
High application traffic
Having your device run multiple applications (especially if they are large and demanding) can very quickly run down your battery life. Try to keep a minimum on the number of applications open at one time, and keep in mind the strain larger applications can have on your device's capacity.
Old Battery
Over time, the capacity of the battery will gradually degrade which can lead to shortened screen times. The simplest solution for this is to buy a new battery and replace the one inside of your device.
Slow loading screens, computer frequently buffers
Computer is very slow when switching screens or starting applications
Too many windows
Each application or window open on your device takes up space in your device's memory, and the closer you get to that limit the worse your device performs. Keep a limit on the number of windows you have open at any given time, only those that are entirely necessary.
Insufficient Memory
The root of this problem may be as simple as outdated hardware. There are many components that can contribute to insufficient performance, such as power supply, graphics, etc. - but the most common is a lack of adequate memory or RAM. The only solution to this is to obtain new RAM or simply RAM with a greater memory capacity.
Laptop slow to boot/will not boot
Laptop doesn't power on when power button is pressed
External devices
When starting up your device with other devices plugged into it, the device may attempt to boot to a removeable storage device, such as a DVD or USB drive. Remove all devices and then try to turn it on.
Insufficient Power Supply
If the power button doesn't work and the computer doesn't turn on, you may simply need to connect it to your charging cable. Your battery itself may not be a sufficient power supply and plugging it into an A/C outlet will help provide it with the appropriate amount of energy.
Old/Damaged CMOS Battery
This little battery stores the laptops BIOS settings, which essentially tell the computer what hardware/software to boot, when to boot it and how you boot it. Please refer to the CMOS Battery replacement guide to replace your device's CMOS Battery.
Display/screen will not turn on
The device itself turns on, but nothing appears on the display
Low Contrast or Brightness
One common mistake people make with device displays is its brightness and contrast settings. The problem may be as simple as your brightness is too low and the monitor can't define anything, so all you need to do is to find the display brightness command keys on your keyboard and change them to your liking.
Loose Cables
Any loose connections from the motherboard to the power supply to the display may cause an unresponsive screen. Take the bottom frame of the computer off and ensure stability and security of all connections relating to the power supply and display. Any free-standing cables not connected to anything should be reconnected to their appropriate positions.
Low or Faulty Battery
Insufficient power from the battery to the screen can cause dim or even entirely non-responsive displays on your device. You will most likely need to simply replace the entire battery.
Faulty Display
A device's display, especially with older devices, does have a lifespan. Frequent trauma to the display and screen itself or surrounding cables can deplete this lifespan rapidly and may lead to a need to replace it. Please refer to the Display repair guide to replace your device's display.
