Computer Will Not Power On
Laptop does not show any sign of powering up or isn’t responding to turn on.
Faulty Battery
Your device is plugged in and battery won't charge
If your device only powers on when the adapter is plugged in, regardless of charging time, then the battery is damaged. Replace the battery using this tutorial.
Faulty Power Adapter
Ensure that your device’s power adapter is correctly plugged in and that it is charging. If your laptop shows no sign of charging, and the adapter is plugged in, then the adapter is faulty. You may need to consider purchasing a replacement adapter for your device.
Computer Will Not Boot Up
Your laptop turns on however does not load the operating system or instead takes you to an error message.
Solid State Drive
If the device frequently crashes during normal operation, files frequently cannot be read or written, programs run slowly, your drive becomes read-only, or your file system needs repair then the Solid State Drive may need to be repaired or replaced.
Use this diagnostic check by Lenovo to troubleshoot your device and check if your SSD needs repair.
RAM
If your Lenovo is frequently freezing a lot, slowing down during use, rebooting, or constantly bringing up the blue screen of death, your RAM may be the problem. You may need to either replace or add more RAM to your device. Please refer to this tutorial at PC World to determine if your RAM is the cause of your problems.
You may also use this diagnostic check by Lenovo to troubleshoot your device and check if your RAM needs repair.
Device Is Overheating
If your device is constantly overheating, regardless of amount of use, then your device may have a faulty cooling system or fan.
Dust In Vents/Fans
To fix this issue, try cleaning your vents and fans with compressed air.
No Display
The screen on your chromebook doesn’t show anything, and you know the laptop is turned on.
Disabled Screen/Display
Make sure the display has not been accidentally disabled. To re-enable the display, press the “Fn” key in the lower corner of the keyboard and then press “F2.”
If this does not fix the problem, make sure your computer is not in “Projector mode.” To do this, switch your computer back to “Computer Only” by repeating the previous instruction once more but now this time hold down the Windows key, and then push “P” twice.
Video Is Distorted
Your device’s video image is distorted, discolored , fuzzy or blurry.
Incorrect Resolution
To check if the video is operating in an incorrect resolution, try right-clicking the desktop and then selecting “Screen Resolution.” The ideal resolution for the Lenovo Chromebook 100s is 1366 x 768-pixels.
Outdated Video Driver
If certain images and/or videos flicker, appear fuzzy, blurry, or change to incorrect colors, the most probable cause for this issue is an outdated video driver. To update the video driver for your device, go to this site and download the appropriate video driver by checking for the correct operating system.
Inaudible or Distorted Audio
You have difficulty hearing or listening to sounds on your computer.
Faulty speakers
First make sure the source of sound (e.g. mp3 file or video with sound, etc.) is not the cause of poor sound quality. Once this is ruled out, and your sound quality is still very low or has a muffled noise to it, you may need to change your laptop's speakers.
Loose Headphone Jack
Test audio through the computer speakers, then test it using headphones. If the audio is only distorted while listening via headphones, the audio jack or the headphones themselves may be faulty or loose. Audio that cuts in and out is often a sign of a loose headphone audio jack, so make sure the audio jack is fully inserted in the computer.
Outdated Speaker Drivers
You may need to update your driver which can be installed or updated online on the Lenovo chromebook page. Go to Control Panel --> Device Manager --> Sound Controllers. Click on your sound card and click “Update driver.” Select your updated driver, then restart the computer.
Keyboard Is Incorrect/Unresponsive
Keys on your keyboard respond incorrectly, not at all, or certain keys are broken or missing.
Set Correct Keyboard Layout & Language
If you don't have the correct keyboard layout, because your keyboard is wrong or the keys don't do what they're supposed to do, or even you want to just change your keyboard layout; you may change/check it by clicking Start --> Control Panel --> Language. This will show you what language and layout your laptop has installed. Ensure your Country's language is installed correctly.
When a language is installed, you may go to the "options" setting (located to the right of the language on your screen), there you will find the "input method," you will have to change your input method if it doesn't match your keyboard. Do this by clicking "add an input method," selecting the correct keyboard layout, and then clicking "add." Once you add a keyboard layout, remove the incorrect keyboard layouts.
Completely Unresponsive Keyboard
Check your settings in the control panel by clicking Start --> Control Panel --> Keyboard to make sure the proper Lenovo 100s Chromebook 11IBY keyboard is selected, if it isn't then select it. If you keyboard is connected and still unresponsive you may need to replace your entire keyboard.
Certain Keys Are Stuck In Place
If you are not able to press certain keys and they are stuck in place, remove the key and check to see if there is something under it preventing you from pressing the key. If so, remove whatever is under the key and place the key back into its original position.
Broken/Missing Keys
If any keys are missing or broken, you will have to purchase new keys and replace them.
