Inability to Turn on the Device
The computer will not POST, Power On Self Test after pressing the power button.
Power Indicator Light
First insure the computer is plugged in with the power adapter. This will allow for constant power to be supplied to the device. To ensure the computer is actually receiving the power, there is a indicator light on the case. If the indicator light is on move on to the next subheading. If the light is not on that means the computer is not receiving power through the cable. Next, you should unplug the cable and reset it. Also check the cable for any damage. If the light is out, a new cable is needed. If the new cable does not work then the power supply is bad and requires replacement.
Incompatible Hardware
If there is new hardware plugged into the computer, it may prevent the system from starting. If you have recently changed a part on your computer it may be defective. Changing the part back or removing it may allow the system to start.
Fans Not Running
If the fans begin to run after pressing the power button, then the computer has power and is cooling properly. If the fans are not running then the system could be over-heating preventing the system from starting, which could lead to damaged hardware.
Beep Codes
When turning on your device, there are a series of programmed beeps. Each segment of beeps all coordinate to a certain message the computer relays to you. The beeps are a series of faint sounds, coordinating with a specific issue with the system. There is a code book to help determine what the beeps mean, which can be found either online, or is provided with your Acer Aspire.
Slow Processing Speed
The computer is slow to load, boot, and process.
Too Many Programs
Overloading the computer with too many tabs or programs at once may cause significant deceleration. By opening Task Manager you can see what is running at any given time. If this works then the computer components are showing their age and may need upgrading. Alongside Task Manager, you are able to exit out of program windows on your interface by clicking on the red bar with an “X” in the top right-hand corner of your program. Programs usually define their exit button with a red button with an “X”, but there are some that simply have an “X”.
Virus and Malware
If your computer’s processing speed is slow, a malicious software may have infected the system. To check if this is the case, run your Anti-Virus/Malware software for a comprehensive scan. This will hopefully remove any bad software and restore the PC back to normal conditions.
Lack of R.A.M.
RAM is necessary in order to complete any task on given to the PC. Adding RAM will allow for the PC to process more. Before adding more RAM it is important to check the current RAM to ensure it is properly working. If the RAM is malfunctioning, then the PC maybe running slower than usual.
Distortion of Emitted Sound
Sound-level calibration is not balanced.
Stuttering and/or Glitching
Turn off all power savings schemes. If you go to the notification bar (right of the taskbar) - right-click the "Speaker" icon and click "Playback Devices" - select the speakers/audio and click "Properties" at the bottom. Then check the box that says "turn off all enhancements" and restart.
Static noises
Go to Device Manager and expand the sound, video, and game controllers tab. Right-click RealtekAudio and click “Update Driver”, click “Browse my computer for driver software”. Click let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer and select “high definition audio device” and click ‘Next’ to complete.
Headphone and Outside Utilities are Not Recognized
The ports on the case are not recognizance input.
Computer Needs to Restart
Usually a simple restart of the system will fix this issue.
Incorrect Audio Device
Change the output of sound to the preferred device. This can be done by going to “Start” then “Control Panel” then “Hardware and Sounds” click “Sounds” then “Playback” finally you choose the device you want.
Outdated Drivers
Drivers are necessary for the operation of the hardware. Update the drivers to allow for the system to operate correctly.
Battery Will Not Charge
The battery power levels do not increase after charging.
Damaged Power Cable
Check the cable for any damage and that it is working properly. If the cable is fine and the indicator light on the case is on, the battery should be charging.
Faulty Battery
If the battery is not charging after checking the cable, check the battery itself. Remove the battery and reattach it. This will allow it to be correctly attached to the computer. If it is still not charging, replace the battery.
Lack of Storage
The laptop does not have enough storage.
Disk Cleanup
One way to increase storage size is to run “Disk Cleanup”. “Disk Cleanup” is located under “Properties” for the hard drive. By running this program the system will purge all unnecessary files to create more space on the hard drive.
Hard Drive Space
If there is still not enough space you can upgrade the hard drive. A larger hard drive can be bought to replace the current hard drive and increase space.
