Yes, do it many times to loosen the adhesive.
I had a small flight light ready so I could see. Follow the directions - don’t blindly pull.
I did loosen the speaker so I could get a tool behind the SATA cable to push it on to the SSD drive. Otherwise hard to align cable.
I had this happen and all I had to do was "short" out the positive terminal of the batter as described in this thread - iPod won't power on after screen replacement, even when plugged in
