I choose Computer science because I love technology. I was never very good in class. I struggled to understand what was going on. The day I got into Computers everything started to click. Math, Science, writing, and everything else started to make sense. I went from hating learning to spending all night learning.
My dad is a self-employed HVAC tech and I worked with him growing up. From this, I learned how to use tools and use my hands. I was the computer guy in my family I was the one giving recommendations for what tech to buy and if stuff was fixable. Being financially frugal with all of these other skills I naturally love fixing things.
I don’t have much money (yet) and I’m a massive cheapskate. I like to buy used things to save a buck and I like to fix them if I can. I needed a laptop for school and I wanted a Thinkpad. I bought a used t450 (witch was 1.5 - 2 years old) for $200 instead of starting at $1000 for a new one. I upgraded the ram, hard drive, and added an SSD alongside the hard drive. I do this for almost all of my computers except my main pc.
I have a lot of hobbies. Some of my favorites are everything tech (hardware-software) and science (physics-astronomy). One of my bigger projects in the past year was making a radio telescope.
- How does this project relate to you?
Building a radio telescope taught me A TON. How radio waves are different but the same to visible light and how to capture the signal. To how to process this signal with custom software.
