Found the trick was to apply the tip of the blade, rather than the edge, to the plastic lug. Doing that means you only need a little pressure. But please - if this happens to you, report the thing to Dyson even if you fix it. This will weaken the plastic lugs and having a thousand dollar (NZ) machine dependent on these little bits of plastic, even if Dyson replace willingly, is simply not acceptable. Great engineering on the motor is no good if there is rubbish engineering on the rest of the thing. If enough report, they will have to acknowledge this as a fault and change the bin design.
