SSD in an iMac Intel 24" (iMac7,1)
Il Mio Problema
Was not a problem but an upgrade: I wanted to add a SSD and make a fusion drive with a classical 2Tb HD on my 'old' 24" iMac7,1. I had to remove the optical bay and place my SSD there. This 7,1 iMac model was, I think, the last to have a PATA interface so I ordered the drive enclosure from iFixit for such an interface.
La Mia Riparazione
The replacement was easy: I removed the optical bay (which I placed within an external USB drive enclosure) and I installed my 256Gb Samsung 840 SSD within the PATA Optical Bay SATA Hard Drive Enclosure. I then made a Fusion drive. Now my iMac looks pretty new and fast!! (I upgraded also the RAM to the max, 6Gb in this machine).
Il Mio Consiglio
Do it in a calm room, without children around, and follow the excellent guides from iFixit
