Drive went South - booted from a USB drive and ran Disk Utility on the Mini drive and it failed.

Pretty well. The iFixit guide for replacing the drive was accurate. I had bought the tool for moving the motherboard which made the process of moving the board back a lot easier to understand. We use disk images to install software so I installed everything from the image using Disk Utility.

I used a hemostat to connect the AirPort lead - it's in a pretty cramped location.
