Domanda Chiusa

Do I need to glue the cables back down?

Hello,

I am replacing the battery on a 4th generation iPod nano and i was wondering since some pieces(hold switch cable, battery, etc...) are glued down to begin with do i need to glue them back down during the reassembly process? Also if i do need to what kind of glue should i use?

Only if they get in the way. Use a small piece of electrical tape.

What about the new battery? That will move around a lot.. What glue is safe to use?

Use a couple small pieces of double-stick tape. It does the job, yet it's nothing you can't undo if necessary.

I have repaired lots of these iPods and never needed to use glue to put the cables back on, except perhaps to hold the holdswitch in place or to keep the top and bottom plastic outer pieces on.. just a small dab of superglue does the trick quite well.

Electrical tape is good for the cables. I'll try a dab of superglue to attach the hold button -- good idea.

I have "revived" the thick stickum glue for the top and bottom plastic inserts with a few dabs of "vulcanizing fluid" from a bicycle inner tube patch kit. (If anyone knows a reason not to do this, let us know !) It's a $3 purchase from your local bike shop.

Be patient; apply it in thin layers a few times; remove any big chunks that don't dissolve; and it should work. Someone who knows more should be able to name the *right* solvent to use, but this is what worked for me.
