How to erase the internal Macintosh HD

My iMac 27 is taking a long time to start and it takes a long time to operate after I push a key on the keyboard so I went to Disk Utility and Repaired Disk. It showed a bunch of errors and said I need to erase the HD, reinstall Lion OS, and restore backup in Time Machine.

I am unable to erase the Macintosh HD and need instructions on doing this.

Thanks

You'll need to create a bootable Lion CD/DVD or USB thumb drive. Once you have made one you should be able to boot under it to then run disk repair again. If disk repair fails try reformatting your disk.

WARNING! Before you do anything make sure you've made a complete backup of your files onto an external HD.

Often when your disk is having problems you'll loose access to some of if not all of your files after fixing it. These bad blocks will be no longer accessible. If you find the drive is breaking down (Vs corruptions caused by loss of power) you should consider replacing it. If the cause of the problems is loss of power, you should think about getting a good UPS.

Questa risposta era destinata originariamente a un'altra domanda.

You have to boot from your install disk, use disk tools you can't errase a disk you are running your OS from (like fixing a car engine while it's running).

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.
