2008 iMac EMC 2134 graphics/video card died?
I have a 27 inch iMac EMC 2134 bought in 2008.
Today the screen went black after starting up. After much consulting of other articles on this site I've come to the conclusion that the graphics/video has died.
I've opened the iMac up and found that one of the three cables coming off the LCD is soldered to the board, suggesting my only solution is to replace both the graphics/video card and the LCD, or perhaps just the card and pay someone to solder in the existing LCD?
Well the machine is quite old now so perhaps it's time to throw it out and save up for a new computer.
My questions:
1. Have I come to the right conclusion about the graphics/video having died? (I've tried and external monitor which is also just black. I've also tried to boot up from an external drive but only get a solid orange screen.)
2. Would the expense of getting parts replaced (parts and labour) be better saved towards getting a new system?
3. Is it worth trying to salvage (and perhaps selling) parts of this iMac, given it's an old model now?
Confirmation and advice much appreciated.
Questa è una buona domanda?

Sorry, a 24 inch, not 27. Serial number ends with 0KM.
External monitor via mini-DVI just goes black too.
On start up, usual grey screen with the apple logo but with half inch horizontal strip at top of screen: white with 'speckles' of coloured pixels.
When you expect log in screen to appear, just goes black with green and brown, then solid black. Machine at this point is dead. Keyboard and mouse do nothing.
Single user mode reveals hard disk is OK.
A few days prior, a DVD refused to eject. Tried every which way to eject but nothing, so gave up. Then this black screen/system-dead problem. Was convinced DVD drive was the culprit so found instructions to carefully open up iMac and DVD drive, and remove DVD. I thought, hooray, but the iMac behaves exactly as before.
Noticed LCD has three cable (bundles) connecting it to the board. One is small and easily detached. Other can be detached by unscrewing it from board. The third is soldered to the board (video card?).
Has the video card died? Can I replace it?

Ah, the inverter, thanks for the advice. I should have mentioned all four LEDs light up so I guess that rules out the faulty video card theory (?). This model doesn't have the hole next to the DVD drive, why oh why I don't know! Thanks again.
