Internal Speaker does not show on output sound device.

The internal speaker does not show on the output device list only the headphones port is listed. This happens only when I am using the Snow Leopard (tried Lion as well). However, when I boot on Windows 7 through bootcamp, I can see both the internal speakers and the headphones and I can select either of them as the default output sound device. Everything works fine when I am using Windows 7. Nothing is stuck inside the headphone jack. Anyone has experienced this and has a solution?

Are you getting a red light in the audio out port?

No red light on the audio out port. Does it has an indicator? I didnt notice any on the left side. By the way, I forgot to mentioned that I can hear the chime from the internal speakers when starting up but no sound on OS X.

I had similar issue: no internal speakers available, no input or output devices, no red light out of the port on my Macbook Air El Capitan. I've done NvRam and SMC reset, OS reinstall, tried everything what I found on google, nothing worked. Then I tried one more thing: DEBUG BLUETOOTH, it looks like this resolved my issue :D

Instuctions:

Hold down the Shift and Option keys ('Alt' on some keyboards) and at the same time click on the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar. Once the menu is showing, release the keys. From the Bluetooth menu, choose Debug > Remove All Devices. Reboot your Mac,

Do a safe boot and see if the problem persists... if it doesn't you have a corrupt extension. To troubleshoot extensions come back here and ask for directions as a comment to this Answer.

No audio output devices found/listed on safe boot.

Blown Audio board.

How can it be a blown audio board when I can get the sound perfectly when booting on Windows 7 (bootcamp)? Like I said, headphones/internal speakers work perfectly in Windows 7 bootcamp.

This has been a "known issue" - but sporadic for quite a few models and years of laptops (go over to Apple Discussions and search "internal speaker output device missing"). It would appear to be an audio board switch problem. SOME have had success plugging a mini jack headphones in and out a couple of times - others have fiddled around inside the headphone jack with a toothpick, some had to have the audio boards replaced. - - I'm not an engineer, nor do I play one on TV. I just fix'em I don't explain'em.

Is there a way to display both the internal speaker and the headphone on the audio out device list in OS X like the way it is in Windows 7? I mean if Windows 7 can see both the internal speakers and the headphone ports and displays it at the same time, is this possible in OS X?
