Are you sure it's the correct one for the device?
If it is, there is a short within the device as the power adapter is doing its part but the device is consuming more power than what the power adapter was expecting (designed to be used)
Some heat is expected as normal. If you have access to a duplicate setup (same hardware) using a IR thermal detector you should see the same temps between them, that's both the WiFi AP as well as the power adapter.
