The Dell XPS 13 7390 is a compact, lightweight laptop from 2019 that features a 10th Generation Intel Core processor, a 13.3-inch InfinityEdge display (often 4K UHD), and a slim, sturdy aluminum chassis. Highlights include strong performance for its class, Wi-Fi 6, and robust connectivity via two Thunderbolt 3 ports. Critics state it relies heavily on USB-C and lacks a traditional USB-A port. Don't confuse this laptop with the XPS 13 7390 2-in-1, which is similar but has a 360 degree foldable display.

Dell Notification "Your battery has failed"

I recently installed a new battery purchased from ifixit. The new battery appears to be working normal, like new. However, on occasion I get a Dell notification that "Your battery has failed". Is there a way to eliminate this notification.

Hi @williamh81520

Try uninstalling/reinstalling the Microsoft ACPI compliant control method battery drivers in Device Manager and check if that resolves the problem.

To get to Device Manager in Win10 (or Win11) press the Win key + x key (both keys together) and select the Device Manager link in the menu box that opens.

When in Device Manager scroll down to Battery → right click on the Microsoft ACPI compliant control method battery entry in the category → Uninstall device and follow the prompts.

When completed, close Device Manager and any other open windows and then restart the laptop in the normal manner.

Upon restarting Windows will reinstall the drivers. Check if the notification is still there.

This usually happens because Dell’s BIOS is strict about battery identification and health reporting. Third-party batteries (including iFixit) can work perfectly but still trigger false “battery failed” warnings. To reduce or eliminate the message: update your BIOS to the latest version from Dell, then reboot. Enter BIOS (F2 at startup) and reset settings to default. In Windows, update Dell Power Manager and chipset drivers. You can also disable battery health notifications in Dell Power Manager. If the warning only appears at boot, it can’t be fully removed—Dell hard-codes it in BIOS. As long as charging and runtime are normal, the battery is safe to use.
