URGENT] MacBook Water Damage – Need Expert Advice ASAP

Hi everyone,

This morning I accidentally spilled a half full glass of water directly onto my MacBook keyboard. I immediately powered it down, took it home, and began disassembling.

I removed the trackpad, then the logic board, speakers, antenna strip, and even started removing individual keys. It took me about one hour to get the logic board out.

When I flipped the board, I saw two spots with clear signs of water damage — corrosion or material breakdown. I dabbed off the water right away and cleaned those areas with 99.99% isopropyl alcohol. The spots still look slightly damaged.

I can reassemble the MacBook, but I’m not experienced with board-level repairs.

Questions:

• Is this likely to be irreparable at this point?

• Should I take it to a repair shop immediately, or are there DIY steps I can still try?

• Any chance the damage worsens even if it boots again?

I’m in a tough spot — losing this MacBook now would hit me hard financially and impact my final law exam preparation (exam is in one month).

Any quick advice, proven rescue steps, or even recommended specialists would mean a lot.

Thanks in advance!

Honestly, this damage looks very minimal to me. I would try and get the rest of the corrosion if you can. An old toothbrush can help get the bits in crevices. That location on the board is also related to audio. It's possible it could cause your machine not to power on if it's shorted to ground here in some places, but in my opinion, this is probably fine. Your swift action was the way to go for sure.

It's still possible there's damage I can't see so take this with a grain of salt, but if it were me I would try and power it up. There is little else a shop could do other than run it through an ultrasonic cleaner. Yes, it's possible this small amount of corrosion may cause issues over time, but it could regardless.

I would put it back together and hope for the best.
