Why doesn’t this fit, considering this is a universal plug?

I can’t plug in my aircon to this outlet. According to my landlord the outlet that they changed(they had to change it due to my aircon plug heating) was already universal and my aircon plug was the problem. What to do in this situation? Does the plug actually change size? My landlord called in an electrician and suggested that the plug to be replaced, he’ll just cut it and change with a compatible one. Is this safe?

Hi @karlonavarro

What is the make and model number of the air con unit?

Post some images in your question showing the outlet and the air con plug.

In addition to @jayeff's question, what country are you in? Power plugs vary among different countries so we can't give you a good answer without knowing that. Here in the US some plugs that are intended for higher amperage circuits have one of the blades turned sideways, but pictures will tell us what's what.

If he's a competent electrician, its safe.

@karlonavarro besides needing a new plug for your Air Conditioner you would also be better of finding a different circuit to plug it into. This "due to my aircon plug heating" is more unsafe then installing a new plug. Your AC is drawing to many amps for the circuit it is plugged into. Have the electrician take a look at that for sure.

There are really no universal plugs just standard plugs. We will need to see what yours look like so we could tell you what you need. Yes, it is safe to replace the plug on your AC if done right.
