Why is Kindle freezing after 30 seconds?

Kindle starts and can see my list of books, but two bar function does not work and when I open the book I can read but only go forward two pages and it would freeze and lock up. I have tried the whole power button 40 seconds that did not work, in fact I tried almost 20 times. Also tried connecting to my MacBook Pro to do the reboot holding 40 seconds same thing it would freeze and no two bars function works.
